What is the difference between VoIP
and IP Telephony
° Voice over IP is the transmission
of voice encapsulated packets over the Internet
via routed protocols to the destination. Unlike
traditional voice service through a voice PRI which
traverses a physical path back to the provider’s
Central Office, VoIP has numerous paths to reach
the end client. With the advancements in DSP and
encoding technologies the far end user never notices
a difference whether they are speaking over a traditional
PSTN network or VoIP call.
° IP Telephony is the integration of
voice, video and data into a feature rich telephone
system transmitting over a converged network. This
leads to greater productivity and reduced operational
costs. Imagine having one integrated system where
you can check your voicemail messages and email
over the phone from any location in the world without
paying a single cent. You can travel any where around
the world, wherever there is Internet access and
make a phone call without the user ever knowing
you are a thousand miles away!
